‘The Green Precinct’ - located in Preston and includes Preston Girls Secondary, Sacred Heart Primary, Samaritan Catholic College and Preston Tram Depot.
Brent was instrumental in the design and successful application for Stage 1 Water Grants for the schools. With this funding, in consultation with Brent the schools implemented a range of water saving measures which save a significant amount of mains water. These included extensive 77.5Kl, 15Kl and 8Kl rainwater harvesting systems, a water conservation monitoring system, waterless urinals and flow restrictors.
Neighbouring the schools is the Preston Tram Depot. In this project Brent designed and installed a 60,000L rainwater harvesting system which supplies rainwater to toilets on site that are used by around 100 staff members every day. As part of this installation water was also supplied to the Tram washing station. Yarra Trams estimates that this measure has reduced mains water use by at least 14,000L a week, while the total project saves half a million litres of mains water annually. Brent also installed waterless urinals to replace older ones that used 20L for each flush and installed low flow showers and tap fittings. In 2005 Brent won the “Green-plumber Commercia Job of the Year Award” for his work at the Preston Tram Depot.
It is estimated that this project will save over 9million litres of water a year .
